Horses : How To Get A Bug Bite The Size Of A Golf Ball To Decrease In Size
Enroute to the last horse show on the weekend, my horse received a bug bite in the trailer, right where the girth sits. Unfortunately it blew up quite large so my rider had to withdraw her from the event as it was just too close to the girth. It's now been two days and this lump is still quite large. How can I get it to subside? ~~~ Peggy M ~~~
Horses : How Old Should A Horse Be Before You Try Join Up
I'm going to be buying a young horse, and I'm very into Natural Horsemanship. The thing is, all horses that I've trained this way have been older, at least 5 years old. How old should a horse be before I try Join Up with them? Or does it matter? I don't want to confuse the horse by trying too soon, but I thought if you start the bond of trust sooner, the better. But I don't want to rush anything. Anyone know? ~~~ CowgirlDeluxe ~~~

Horses : What Breeds Of Horses Have Slow Growing Hoofs
I have had my mare for about 5 years and only need to get her feet trimmed every 6-9 months. My farrier agrees that they are slow growing hoofs and said that some breeds have this trait. I had no idea this was the case. She is unregistered but now I am wondering what breed she is. Do you know what breeds have this slow foot growth trait - what other traits do they have...I'd love to know. Thank you in advance for your reply. Just a note: Her feet are really tidy, healthy (according to my long time farrier) strong and black that hardly get chipped between trimmings. I have never had to shoe her for the type of riding I do. We live in Southern Alberta, Canada and our soil is mostly dirt (some weeds!!) no rocks and no extra moisture this year. She has never come up soar or laim and seems generally content. ~~~ FarmingMommy ~~~
Horses : What Do You Drink While Horseback Riding
Maddy S - If it's not very hot out, only like 20 degrees I just bring water or gatorade and drink it after. I usually get too wrapped up in the horse so I don't take water breaks unless it's extremely hot out. ~~~ ..:* Andrea*:.. ~~~

Horses : What Are Your Thoughts On Parelli And Lyons Training Concepts
Tell me what you think..pros and cons of horse training by Lyons and Parelli. I am interested to get feedback from others who have given these guys a shot on their horses or even just read about their concepts. I find it amazing how majority thinks its rubbish. I totally 100% agree that it might be over priced and marketed for making money, but Ive experienced the difference first hand of certain techniques and you wouldnt believe the different in my horse on and off the ground. Its definaltey about the understanding and knowledge of your horse. Iam interested to know how many people have actually TRIED the concepts rather than just simply judging it. *playing devils advocate here* Paint Pony - I am sorry but I think you're gathering incorrect information. Maybe there has been the case where a horse was screened but in all reality who CAN you trust today and what sport hasnt had its faults with professionals? These men are VERY talented. Yes I agee in the sense that its expensive and a little rediculous but you cant stand there and say every single method is a load of nothing. Ive had a guy working with my horse for just about 5 months now who trains with Lyons and he himself has done clinics at large events and these horses are in deed green as I have assisted him. These horses are NOT screened, they are randomly selected horses some off feed lots even and herds that have never been touched and they can quietly with no force and straight technique have a horse broke in an hour. Yes, the odd horse is not going to "enjoy" or take to the methods like the rest...but then it would be boring no? I find it hard to believe that youve done adequate research on this topic Corrention Paint Pony - I am not slamming you or anyones opinions. Iam just simply making a point that I train with a gentleman who trains directly with Lyons and IVE seen what you say doesnt work, WORK in an hour. This is totally per person and individual. Its not for everyone I know this...but as far as all the horses being screened and such...I dont beleive that thats the case in every clinic. As I have been to them, been involved in them and I have never once seen a horse who "knows" everything trained to act like that know nothing...and then all of a sudden be perfect in an hour. Unrealistic to me, thats all. And Iam looking for opinions, as it has worked for me, I want to see who it has and hasnt worked for. But I do however, like it or not have the right to disagree with certain things. It wouldnt be much of a discussion without a little bit of disagreement now would it? Lisa M 1. We arent talking about Monty Roberts and more importantly 2. I never said it hasnt happened, as a matter of fact I dont doubt it does happen..again, what sport in the world hasnt had some twisted professionals?. All I said was that I have never come across this in these clinics and to assume (without solidified proof) that this is the case in EVERY clinic is absurd. All in all, I think you need to take the bits and peices that work, and leave out the ones that dont. I like Parelli methods and Lyons methods...but I certainly dont buy any $ whips - In agreement with everyone, that is definatley absurd. ~~~ Dallas ~~~
Horses : How Do You Clean Your Grooming Tools
I have been riding for quite a while now but I still have one horse-y problem I can't solve; how to best clean your grooming tools and brushes. I want to keep my tools clean and sanitary but I have yet to find the most effective way. I am hoping for something relatively simple that won't wear down my brushes if I clean them a lot. I have brushes with both rubber and wood grips, and a plastic and metal hoof pick. Thanks for any input =) ~~~ Dom ~~~
