As fas as the FAA is concerned, you may be eligible, if you can get by the "good moral character" clause in the regs for an ATP. The only convictions that can hurt you are for driving offenses, those involving smuggling and drug offenses. see § "Offenses involving alcohol or ; Title 14: Aeronautics and Space PART 61a€”CERTIFICATION: PILOTS, FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS, AND GROUND INSTRUCTORS Subpart Ga€”Airline Transport Pilots § Eligibility requirements: General. To be eligible for an airline transport pilot certificate, a person must: (a) Be at least 23 years of age; (b) Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language. If the applicant is unable to meet one of these requirements due to medical reasons, then the Administrator may place such operating limitations on that applicant's pilot certificate as are necessary for the safe operation of the aircraft; (c) Be of good moral ; lt;snipgt; Title 14: Aeronautics and Space PART 61a€”CERTIFICATION: PILOTS, FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS, AND GROUND INSTRUCTORS § Offenses involving alcohol or drugs. a) A conviction for the violation of any Federal or State statute relating to the growing, processing, manufacture, sale, disposition, possession, transportation, or importation of narcotic drugs, marijuana, or depressant or stimulant drugs or substances is grounds for: (1) Denial of an application for any certificate, rating, or authorization issued under this part for a period of up to 1 year after the date of final conviction; or (2) Suspension or revocation of any certificate, rating, or authorization issued under this part. lt;snipgt;

Answer 1Would you like fries with that?
Answer 2It is not necessarily fatal, but one thing you will need to check on is whether it will affect issuance of an FAA medical certificate. Contact an FAA medical examiner to see.
Answer 3You could become a commercial pilot, but it would be easier for you to become one abroad.... more money. Initially you could become an instructor to gain hours, but eventually a commercial pilot won't be that difficult. And, no it will not affect your FAA medical certificate!
Answer 4Mechanic. Pretty much everything would be out of the question except if you start your own business (such as a flight instructor). Any airline job (whether it be Military or Commercial) , from Captain to the baggage stower must pass a rigorous security background check. You would need to apply for a job outside of the airbase/airport that is avition related.
Answer 5That's very sad. You could probably be a flight instructor since small FBOs may not do background checks. Good luck. Maybe someday you can get a pardon and have the record expunged.
Answer 6If you keep breaking into houses you won't have enuf time to learn to fly, except as a jail bird. My spelling is as bad as yours also
Answer 7Seems that you should have gotten a job instead of stealin other people's s*it. Hopefully the 10 year background check will prevent you from getting a job anywhere near an aircraft or an airport. Oh, by the way, you'll also have to pass a piss-test, too. Can you handle that? I hate theives with a passion. You steal what other people work hard everyday of their lives for, then feel sorry for yourselves when you get caught. I hope you enjoy your new career pulling Slurpee's at 7-11
Answer 8Herea€™s the on answer. Can you be a convicted felon and hold a FAA certificate? Answer YES you can however on the FAA application it states you have to wait 12-months for the date of conviction to apply. You conviction has nothing to do with your medical certificate. Next will a commercial operator hire you? Answer probably NOT, do to insurance and liability reasons. In part 61 of the rules talks it about your conduct and holding FAA certificates as an ATP and being of good moral character. What ever you decide to do make sure and disclose your conviction on any and all government forms failing to do so is considered fraud and the FAA will certainly take action. TSA rules will certainly play into this also. Transportation Security Administration rules have a list of prohibited convictions and the list changes from time to time. They may even go back beyond the 10-years and in some cases prohibit you from having a certificate. Check the web site and see which convictions are not allowed. I must admire you for wanting to do good, it take a lot to pull yourself up and start over. There are many none commercial flying position available so I wish you the best.
Answer 9Unfortunatly, becoming a pilot is one of the most subjective careers in the world. The background check can be failed on many airlines if you have a single DUI on your record... A felony all but completely eliminates your chances... You could still be a flight instructor, but you would have to do in independently as getting hired at an FBO as a flight instructor is pretty much the same as getting hired at a small airline...
