Best Answer To Baseball Question
its the direction it is mowed. grass has two colors: a light and dark side the light side faces the sun most of the day and gather much of the sunlight. its called "phototropism", or a tendency of grass to bend towards the sun. because of this, ground crews can mow the grass in both directions, so that one strip is the lighter side, and the other is the darker side

Answer 2When they cut the grass they go forward and then they come back. When they come back the grass is cut a little differently.
Answer 3The way that the grounds crew make the field look like that is they have a machine that actually flattens the grass. Once the grass is flat it looks a different color and it is also how they get the patterns in the grass.
Answer 4It's the direction in which the mower was moving when the field was last mowed. The mower causes the grass to lean slightly in that direction. You can also drag something such a section of chain link fence to get the same result. For example, the Mets use a fence section to put their name in the outfield surface.
Answer 5The main reason it the way they CUT the grass: Different lengths and mowing patterns, etc. Baseball field and Golf course landscapers are the best in the biz.
Answer 6It's the direction the grass is mowed in. It is that simple!!! You could even do that to your front lawn if you wanted to.
Answer 7It is done by they path of the lawn mowers. going differnt directions and having slightly different hieghts makes the grass color different
Answer 8A reel mower is the reason that the grounds keeper gets these designs. A cut in different directions gives you the appearance because the reel mower pushes the grass down in that direction.
Answer 9Rollers on the mowers. When the grass is bent toward you, less light is reflected, making the grass appear darker (the mower came toward you). When the grass is bent away from you, more light is reflected off the grass and the grass appears lighter (the mower went away from you). "Phototropism" sounds cool, but it's not the answer to this question. Nor is the "reel mower" explanation. (Think about it: Who really pushes a manual mower to cut the outfield grass.)
