The 2008 season starts in April. Tickets won't go on sale until around February or March. It's not hard to get tickets even though they are the Yankees. Try to get the tickets about a month before you want to go, so you can get a better seat.

I don't know when tickets go on sale, but yes it's going to be difficult to get tickets to a Yankees game. They are the highest payed, most storied franchise in baseball, with the biggest fan base.

The regular season usually starts April 1 and goes to the end of September. Tickets depend on the game. If you want to see the Devil Ray's play (this is a bad team) it will be easy to get tickets. But if you want to see the Red Sox or another good team play tickets can be more difficult.
Playoffs start in October. Hopefully the Yanks will be there this year and hopefully for you your space ship lands by then.
