Or is it a lot to do with luck? Yeah knowing the cards are a plus, but anything else besides that. Like the best cards to keep or something else of that nature. I feel like the first person to pick up the most cards from the pile has better odds. As they have more cards to work with and more cards they are willing to toss. ~~~ banned_glory ~~~

My grandpa plays rummy with me sometimes, and when he does he almost always wins by playing down all his cards at once. Ive only beaten him a couple of times, but other times he just creams me in a matter of rounds. So there are definitely some strategies to rummy. Sometimes people can hold sets in there hand and not put them down for awhile if they know another person could add something to it. Other strategies is to never hold aces in your hand or set traps in the discard pile, intentionally letting somebody get a trick if they fall into your trap by also getting extra cards. There is definitely strategy to rummy, such as knowing which card to keep and which cards to toss, and how your going to use the cards. Very little card games are based on "luck", it has everything to do with how well you can control the game.

Mostly luck but it takes skill and concentration. Remember the golden rule of gin rummy. If you need more than 1 card to make gin and your deadwood is less than the limit then you have to knock. Check out for more tips
