This computer is using Win 98 se. I cannot find the name of the chip on the motherboard so therefore cannot find the drivers for the network chip. I have a network card with everything with it I like to put in it.

Windows 98 SE doesn't have a problem with two network cards, so you could just have two of them, but if you really wanted to disable the onboard one, you could either do that in the device manager or the motherboard bios

I don't remember much about 98, but I do remember that 98 supports multiple cards and that in the network settings you can choose and configure each card individually.

Without knowing your motherboard manufacturer I can't give you detailed instructions, but you will need to go into your BIOS as your computer starts (usually F8 or something) and disable the chip in there.

You can either go into the BIOS and see if there is a setting there to disable sound. OR You can go into the hardware devices and disable the sound there. (right-click My Computer gt; hardware... )

Install the card normally and just disable the on board one. No harm in having 2 or more..
