Computer Networking : What Is The Best Way To Create A Wireless Network In My House
I have heard of a device that allows you to access the internet by plugging your computer into an electrical outlet anywhere in the house. Does this exist, and if so, how well does it work? ~~~ Ben N ~~~
Best Answer To Computer Networking Question
Never heard of it.. But regardless of it's existence, it's still technically not a wireless system. If you already have internet you have two options. Wireless router: There are heaps of these out there. Look for a linksys one, they're very good. Take it to your ISP (Internet service provider) and get the appropriate settings put on it, plug it in and away you go. A little computer networking background knowledge would help in setting it up, stuff like WEP encryption and the speeds you need (,b,g or SuperG), But most of this is done automatically. Wireless access point: This is what i mentioned above, minus the router. This one you don't need to take into your ISP to get set up, you just plug this one into a common RJ-45 plug (the one you already plug into) on the back of your current router or such, Set up an SSID, encryption or no encryption.. and away you go! Good luck!

Answer 3I comine both wired and wireless in my home (5 computers). I use a LinkSys wireless router (which has both wireless and four hard-wired connections). This is a division of Cisco. Several things to be aware of -- you should set up a security password to prevent neighbours from accessing your network. Also, homes that are large of have a great deal of steel in them may create reception problems in some locations. The router costs about $40, and comes with installation instructions and software. The router connects directly to your modem for Internet access. (Another supplier at the home level is D-Link),
