Cooking Recipes : What Is The Difference Between Plastic Icing And Fondant

Ive noticed in some cake decorating books that sometimes plastic icing is used to cover a cake and sometimes fondant. Whats the difference in the finished cake and what is best? Also, as a self taught decorator (work in progress!) my rolled fondant seems to always start to crack round the edges, its not too thin or dry at the time of application so any recommendations out there? ~~~ ALI C ~~~

ok. i was searching everywhere online to get the best answer. fondant is one layer of cloth cover on top of the cake; meanwhile icing is soft and is the sweetest cream but it stands in shape. Fondant: =vecmy4nKT-A Icing + Fondant: =IsrgS9eB1bEamp;feature=related
