Do It Yourself Diy : Whats The Best Way To Run A 2 OD Central Vacuum Pipe Down A Wall That Is Filled With Fibreglass Insulation
I've run cable and phone lines down through a similar wall using a piece of plastic conduit as a pass-through, but it seemed like I was doing a lot of damage to the insulation when I was pushing the conduit down through the wall. Is there a better way? Something I could do to the pipe to help it push past the insulation rather than ripping it? Since my latest project is using a much bigger pipe than the conduit, I'm very concerned that I'll be completely destroying the insulation. . It's an interior wall and the insulation is only for sound dampening. ~~~ Ira W ~~~

theres a few ways to do this that can be successful. 1- depending on the wall and if you have an opened top, take card board or a plastic sheet and use it between the wall and the insulation. feed the pipe down and once down remove the cardboard or plastic from the wall cavity. 2- bend the card board into a V and attached it to the pipe end, feed it down slowly and that should do it. 3- remove all the insulation from the wall cavity and install the pipe, then replace it with a blown in type or similar insulation to regain the R factor.

Answer 1Look lets be honest if you are trying to snake a 2" pipe down through an interior wall and are ripping the insulation then look at what is more important. Finishing the job so your wife will get off your ass about not having a central vac or preserving a little insulation that is being used strictly as a sound barrier. My decision would be to man up and accept that for the greater good that it is inevitable that the insulation will be destroyed. But then again if you are so anal about some insulation open up the wall and repair it.
