Dogs : What Is The Best Way To Walk 2 Male Goldens At Once
My dog is fairly trained, he is just over a year old. Mom's dog is 9 months and not nearly as trained as mine. I will be moving out of province with both animals and will need to walk both dogs at once. Together both dogs are extremely excitable and love going for walks, mom's dog especially is very strong. I have attempted to walk both on separate leashes and ended up tangled and on the ground. Do the "Y" leashes work and are they strong enough for 2 large, strong male golden retrievers? ~~~ ersabette ~~~

One thing alot of people dont realize is that walking a dog in front of you gives them alot of extra leverage. If you keep the dogs by your side (they dont have to know what heel means just make them walk there) they will be easier to control. I would suggest keeping one on each side. And if you are wondering they have just as good of time walking by your side as they do pulling you down the street, so dont feel bad about making them walk in the heel position. But if you want a quick easy fix just go get a head collar (halti or gentl leader are the two brands I know) they work like a horse's setup w/o the bit in the mouth. Youll be amazed at easy it is walk them as long as they dont throw a tentrum about having to wear the thng. Good luck

Answer 2I would suggest more leash training for the both of them. Seperately at first, then together. When you first start leash training both together, I would stay really close to home.

Answer 4Get a coupler or a y leash and put them both on harnesses that seems to work best, they have gentle leaders that lead them by the muzzle that works well with excitable dogs, but I wouldn't try walking 2 dogs with a gentle leader.
Answer 5Most people frown on pinch collars, but I would suggest using them. The dogs should not walk in front of you, but at your side or behind. The pinch collars will help you control the pulling. My neighbor had a yellow lab, and had a halty for him...I sat for them for a week, and tried to use the halty on him...he was still able to pull...I ended up using my pinch collar on him the last 3 days, and he was a dream dog! I was even able to take him for a long walk...with the halty, I was being dragged (I am 5' 1" and weighed...at the time...120lbs).
Answer 6If the dogs are pulling and yanking on the leash then they are not properly trained to walk nicely. Check into obedience training, and ask for help choosing an appropriate training collar if neccessary. There are a few different models out there that are really very humane if used correctly, and its definately a better alternative to having the dogs drag you out in the street so you can all 3 get hit by a bus.
