I agree with playing but it could also mean she is submitting to your pack leader howl (sign of domination). My animals get very interested and want to help when I whimper. Such sweeties.

She's just playing with you..it's a way that dogs play. She just sees it as a game. :)

I guess because the howling hurts their ears (since their hearing is super more sensitive than ours) so they try to want to stop it. So since you're making the noise, she wants you to stop.

Just like you are messing around with your puppy, I am sure is messing around with you! Next time you howl, you should give your dog a big belly rub or a pat on the head while you are howling! Just to tell her "everything is ok!" in body language. If you have any other problems with your puppy, I would go to /doggiehelper. They are GREAT at helping troubled dog/puppy owners!
