Best Answer To Earth Sciences Geology Question
Sandstone should be fine without any special care. It is one of the more durable sedimentary rocks and often forms capstones in badlands and deserts that protect the softer rocks below from eroding away. Most common acids won't even affect it noticably, as it is silicone dioxide... the same thing as makes up the glass containers strong acids often are packaged in. Even outside, it should weather better than cement ornaments. Just keep any large glaciers away from it :)

Answer 3Most sandstone is very durable. Just don't pour acid on it and it should be OK.
Answer 4It will be fine, sandstone can survive millions of years on the earth so your souviner should survive at least through your lifetime. Just don't take a hammer to it.
Answer 5If it is nicely cemented sandstone, then leaving it alone should be no problem. I have had some sandstone that is poorly cemented (you could break grains off by rubbing it or pushing with your fingers). I have used a spray-on lacquer or plasticification on some of my rock samples to prevent this and other weathering effects. Sometimes though, the stuff changes the appearance of the rock in a bad way (sometimes it makes features stand out though), so I would advise testing it on a small area of your sample first (or another piece of the same stuff you don't care to keep) to see if you like the way it looks or not.
Answer 6Most sandstones do not need any care. If the piece you have is a bit crumbly put several coats of clear Krylon spray on it. DO it in very light coats so the color is not affected. Putting on a thick coat can change the color more. When you are done you may want to very gently sand the final coat to get rid of the unnatural glossiness the spray makes. If you specimen is very crumbly you may have mis-identified it. But the treatment is the same, just use more coats.
