Best Answer To Garden Landscape Question
put rice around the yard. they will not go over it because they dont know its not maggots. I am very serious. the only problem is when you do this if there are any snakes in your yard already they will not go over it to get out. Uncooked white rice in a perimeter with no breaks!

Answer 4
My house is surrounded by woods in NC. I have 6 indoor/outdoor cats and three Huskies. The only snakes Ive seen on my property in over 10 years have been ring necks which are harmless. Leave the snakes alone or the next question you will be asking is, " How do I get rid of all these rodents?"
Answer 5
Keep your grass cut, get rid of any patches of tall weeds, dont let brush piles accumulate. Snakes need places to hide. Theyre more afraid of you than you are of them.
Answer 6
all good answers but ive heard that as well as leaving nowhere for them to stay. make sure there are no rodents in or around your house that the snakes might come looking for.
Answer 7
KEEPing them out is tough when youre near the woods.... the best you can do is no tempt them to come in..... so like the other poster said, no cover ... no tall grass, brush piles, etc.... keep the grass mowed... weeds down....dont have great sunny rocks to sleep on... do what you have to in getting rid of field mousies, moles, chipmunks, voles, etc..... (castor oil does wonders for the moles).... keep the grub population down, so the little critters dont feed there, so the snakes wont come to feed on the little critters....aromatics like mothballs will keep them away from the moth balls and thats about it for that idea.... keep a good stout walking stick by your back door and carry it with you when you go out in the yard... poke around in the grassy areas or your garden patch and MAKE NOISE, STOMP HEAVILY as you walk.... chances are then, youll never see one.... the only time mine surprise me in the garden is when Im sitting, weeding, and have started quietly pondering..... as long as I make noise, they hide!!.... learn what snakes are usual to see in your area... get to where you can recognise them.... then you wont need to be so frightened by seeing one, if you know right off that its a harmless garter or king or rat or black snake.... and youll lknow whether you need to back off if its not!!...... knowledge, in this case, is power....
