I mean, they dictate sexual morals to people and then you find out theyve cheated on their wife or something? isnt that hypocritical? The problem with conservative, or even republican, politicians, is that they have always taken the moral high ground and accused democrats / liberals be being bereft of family values and morals. Consequently, if you are caught in a scandal, there is more hypocrisy in that , as opposed to if you adopted a live-and let live, consenting adult platform. No political party has concerned the market on values. But if you continue to accuse the other party of lacking basic morals and common decency, or profess to be holier than the other, youd better walk a straight, narrow, and righteous path.

Just as hypocritical as liberal politicians involved in sex scandals. I have never met someone who openly believes infidelity is okay. Have you? EDIT- Yes they do. If someone is against something one must be for it, if someone supports something one must condone it. Politicians are elected based on their own moral doctrine and whether or not people agree with it. This is because they all impose their beliefs on all of this. Even if what you are saying was true, are you suggesting it is okay for liberals to cheat on their spouses, but not conservatives? I think your own political views are getting in the way of seeing things on an equal playing field. EDIT- Of course that one instance is hypocritical. There are probably many of them like that. As someone started before, ALL politicians are hypocritical to some extent. This is why people "dig for demons" when they run...they know they are there. But not all conservatives are against gay rights, and not all liberal are for. This is the trend, but is not always the case. As you mentioned before..its just one example. The Party Card, is a dangerous and useless one, because the same can always be said for the other.

Its hypocrisy if they disparage others for engaging in marital infidelity and then do so, but this label of "conservative politician" is overly simplistic. There are lots of fiscally conservative people in the US who are otherwise socially more liberal. One mustnt confound the two. Im fiscally conservative but consider myself relatively independent in terms of social matters (perhaps centrist would be a better term).

No. There is a difference between hypocrisy and moral failure. No one is infallible and no one is above sin. Its how we respond to that sin that will ultimate determine our character. Do we learn from it, or do we deny it or try to rationalize it.
