Gender Studies : Is There Maybe A Really Good Reason Why Feminism Has Been Unsuccessful Throughout History
Sometimes there are very good reasons that things are like they are. History sweeps away ideas that were not good in the long run. Maybe they seemed good for a while but they didnt last. Why would people think Feminism can last when it never has before? Isnt it just a fad? ~~~ cjr ~~~

The fact that feminism has done immeasurable damage to society doesnt mean it hasnt worked. Youre assuming its goals were to improve the lot of society in general rather than engineer a return to the pre-civilized matriarchy that an above poster mentioned. Oh and by the way the Abrahamic monotheism that you talk about is where civilization starts. Matriarchy does not produce civilization, nor is it the same thing as feminism. As a side note, Ill never understand why know-nothings insist on spouting rubbish like its historical fact. Celtic Empire? When the hell was this? The Celts never had an empire nor were they ruled by women.

Answer 1
A couple of points on this one. Women, due to our skeletal structure, are physically weaker than men. When survival (ability to work and earn) was based upon physical work (farming, fishing, factory work) women were not ideally suited for these roles. However, as the labour force moves more inside, women become at an even level as men. The feminist movement may also have more staying power as social norms have also changed (somewhat). It is now acceptable for a woman to be on her own and not have children and avoid the label of a spinster. Lastly, the discovery and use of the birth control pill can provide women with the freedom to enjoy relationships as much as men but remain in control of their fertility. This also means that women can avoid being taken out of the work force during their 20s and 30s and can establish a career in the same manner a man can.

Answer 10
As far as equal rights for women go, I dont think it is just a fad. I dont think that anyone is going to deprive women of the right to vote, or married women of the right to own property or sue for divorce. I dont think people are suddenly going to start paying women less than half what men earn for doing the same job. I dont think anyone is going to suddenly decide that girls should not receive the same academic education as boys. As for the wilder shores of feminism, it is possible that people are going to realise that allowing a woman to take off her clothes, get into bed with a man and then call it rape when he has sex with her,is perhaps not a good idea. Or that it is not conducive to good relations between the sexes to allow a woman to sue a man for sexual harrassment because he looks down her blouse or something. and perhaps it will sink in that the likelihood of us ever getting exactly 50% women in politics, as company directors etc is slim. And that perhaps allowing women to take on jobs for which they are physically totally unsuited is not the most brilliant of ideas. But I dont think what I think of as basic feminism, . equal rights as outlined above, is going to go away. I hope not anyway.
