Gender Womens Studies : What Is The Difference Between Womens Rights And Feminism
(acknowledgements to Junie) What is the difference between womens rights and feminism? I seem to hear a lot of women here assert that anti-feminists "dont believe in equal rights" and that only feminists do. However, I have not seen evidence of this on this board or elsewhere. ~~~ celtish ~~~

Answer 1
id guess one is about the rights of women..and the other is about imposing the views of a gender on society
Answer 2
Womens rights is a specific engagement with the state. Feminism is an engagement with society and gender in order to secure these rights above and beyond the scope of everyday legal interventions. There are many different theories of this. Rights being equal to freedom some womens liberationists or feminists of the radical variety have suggested seperatism to achieve this goal. There is plenty of evidence of this. It is sometimes implicit in family values ideas. Whereby womens rights are ok as long as they are consistent with this set of beliefs. Thats not rights that totalitarianism.
Answer 3
No difference. It depends upon what an individual thinks and not on how a person labels himself/herself.
Answer 4
Both these terms are very vague however I generally associate womens rights with legal issues pertaining to gender-discrimination ect. While feminism is broader and includes sociology, politics, and gender roles and the overall place of women in society. This category includes womens rights but is not limited to that. However I would caution you to associate too much with the word feminism. I have found the the word feminist has no clear definition as to what particular beliefs are entwined with the label. I have heard the word feminist used to describe someone who simply believes that women should not be treated as chattel to a man hating third wave feminazi who believes that the penis is evil and should be destroyed.
