Green Living : How Do I Get Rid Of Ants From My Kitchen Without Using Toxic Sprays

It seems like our house is sitting on a bed of ants. No matter what I do, they just wont go away. Im not sure, but looks like, overtime ants have made colonies inside the walls. Ive little kids and my wife is allergic to ant sprays. What should I do? ~~~ Yousef A ~~~

Mix yeast with molasses, until you get a thick grainy paste. Put the "paste" into some soda bottle cap lids. Put the lids with the paste where-ever the ants travel the most. The ants will eat it, they will also carry it back to their colonies to feed to other ants (and hopefully the queen). The yeast will grow, and kill the ants. Totally safe, totally non toxic, even if a child or pet gets into it. I have asthma...the insecticide sprays totally set me off, so I have an idea how your wife feels! ~Garnet Homesteading/Farming over 20 years

Make sure that there are no ant foods like sweets around your kitchen or that they are sealed. You have to be consistent on that for days and if the ants dont find food there, theyll go elsewhere.

you can put Boric Acid down in places that your children cant get to. I have had to use it for ants and other house hold insects. Exterminators also have boric acid ant baits to put in corners and they work the same way by killing the bugs where they live because they cary the powder back with them to the nest killing them where they live. I have been in places where roaches were all over the building but not in my unit as long as I kept the powder down. I am glad to have a bug free home.

It is a good environment for ants. Change the environment. Ants need food and moisture. Change that. Boric acid was mentioned but one other safe alternative is diatomaceous earth (found at pool centers) spread around the perimeter of the room. The microscopic diatoms get in the joints of the exoskeleton and cut them apart. Sad for the ants. Your kids might enjoy geckoes- I believe they would also eat the ants as would some domestic birds. Ants really arent dirty or bad- these are probably eating sugar and food crumbs (esp if you have kids)

first keep the kitchen clean trash kept outside, next use boric acid with sugar mixed in on the counters (watch out for pets and kids). Had the same problem, but they carry this stuff back with them and spread it to the others and it poisens them. the whole nest gets whipped out. RRRRR
