Ultrasuede might make a good medium for the sandals. It's easier to work with than leather in a small size and won't fray. It comes in many colors, but you probably want a natural color. The sole will require a sturdy backing. Glue two pieces of ultrasuede together with cardstock (from an index card or manilla folder) between. I'd use fun foam for modern flip flops, but you have to be careful to cut smoothly. If you cut it jagged, it's nearly impossible to clean it up. I don't recommend it for ancient Egypt. It won't look authentic.

Answer 3thin leather cut 4 soles and several thin straps position straps where you want them to go ( look at a picture of egyptian sandals) between 2 soles and glue together You may have to sew a line of stitching along the length of each strap so that they will not break if you are going to tie them.
Answer 4You can make the soles from cardboard and use paint or markers to color them correctly (so it doesn't look like cardboard.) Use glue to attach thin strips of tiny ribbon or thin cord or heavy thread, depending on how small you're making these. Glue a thin cutout of paper over the straps where they attach to the sole, and color it to match.
