Answer 2
If you have owned your horse long enough you can normally tell when they are warmed up because they just feel loose all over. As long as you are just doing flat work with him a five-10 minute warm-up is fine. If you are jumping him or doing anything other then just flat work then you should probably warm him up for 15 minutes, especially when jumping. Good Luck!
Answer 3
You should be able to tell by how much he has loosened up after walking him for 5-10 mins. Most of the time when you first get on they can be stiff and they can feel reluctant to move. After walking and even trotting a little bit, they should start to feel less tense and more relaxed.

When ever I warm a horse up how I know that they are, they breathe a tick faster, can flex really good, and their gaits are more consitent in speed. The warm I do is a good walk (4 laps) while asking for flexion. I make them do a fast trot, then slow trot and fast trot. Canter for 1/2 a lap and make them pivot.
