.au/migrants/family/ read this page, decide if you are applying from inside Australia or from outside australia, make your choice and click the link. That will tell you what you have to do. Australia has a conditional visa for 2 years where you can live in australia and work if you choose. Those 2 years is purely to prove to the immigration dept that your marriage is REAL. If the marriage breaks up within that 2 years then you do NOT get the permanent residency visa. After 2 years and you are still married then you get approved for the permanent residency visa.

not sure about what it takes if you get married 1st but i do know because i tried a few yrs back. in order to get a visa you have to apply for 1 of 3 types. 1. Student visa requires that you have already been accepted to a school before applying for a visa. takes 3 to 9 months for processing 2. Work visa requires that you have a unique skill or craft that is in high demand in Australia. No time table on this one, completely up to the review board and approved or disapproved at their leisure. they took 14 months to deny mine 3. Prospect citizen visa- not sure what the process for this one is hope that helps you a little
