If I am not able to buy shares, do you think I am able to do mutual funds? If not, at what age? The account can be in your name, but the rules say that an adult has to make the decisions. 18 is minimum, to open an an account on your own. You do not have enough money for this kind of investment, based on what you are trying to do. If your dad is knowledgable of the stock market, he should be telling you the same thing.
