Hello. Im thinking of having a basic shower installed and dont want to be ripped off by unscrupulous tradesmen. Do you have any idea of the basic cost? ~~~ thedene ~~~

Buy an electric shower to fit and use over the bath. Be sure to buy an 8kw unit as the 7 is not adequate for the cold weather. Get a quote or 3 from a plumber and select the one you want and do not pay a penny more than the quote. Buy it yourself from Bamp;Q or Travis Perkins etc. Most tradesmen will not rip you off as they are hard working self employed people but if you get quotes you should be OK. Do not accept an estimate as it is not the same. An estimate is just that and can be increased if justifiable.

electric shower? around £80 to£100 i cant tell you how much to install because i dont know how far your consumer unit is away from your bathroom also you need a .d fitted the price of cable is at high at the moment because of the price of copper iee rules we have to use 10mm twin+earth cable

I surggest that you buy at least a 9 kw shower, have your electrion install it with 10mm pvc cable, with isolation this should cost nomore than £250 supply and fitted. You would aslo need a plumber to connect the cold supply in, but again that should not cost you that much at all, max £50 if they charge you any more than this then yes they are ripping you off. I called around and got free estimates to do mine. After about four I found one guy hungry enough to do my project for a couple of hundred less. Just make sure they are insured. They can show you if they are. 50% down 50% when they are ready to leave. Get an agreement on every detail you want done.
