Maintenance Repairs : What Is The Safest Way To Handle A Light Switch That Has Been Wet By A Leak In The Roof
Were currently undergoing some very wet weather and a leak in my roof wet a light switch. It started giving off smoke and I turned it off using a dry stick. Is it still a fire hazard? Should I turn off the main-switchh? Its late at night and no-one is available to come fix it until morning. ~~~ Vara N ~~~
Best Answer To Maintenance Repairs Question
As long as there is still power going to the switch, it is a potential fire hazard. Turn off the breaker for this circuit. You should fix the leak before you replace the switch, if it leaks again, you may not notice.

i agree with the ones who answered so far. when everything is fixed and if u r still wondering whether its safe to turn it on or not, u can try turning it on using non-conducting material so that electricity doesnt pass through it. maybe a wooden broomstick or something just make sure there is absolutely no metal in it.

I think instead of asking this you first need to solve the root cause that is roof leaks. Roof leaks if left unattended cause you much harm in the form of loss of your furniture, may cause electricity danger as you have mentioned above. So I really want you to solve this problem at earliest.
