Marriage Divorce : How Does The Nonsmoking Partner Deal With The Partner Who Smokes

Many non smokers complain bitterly about their partner who smokes and I can imagine that kissing an ash tray would be pretty awful. Im aware that the smokers breath is not the only thing that exudes the offensive odour as it gets into the hair, skin and clothing. I would like to hear what sort of suggestions anyone has on coping with a partner who smokes, particularly if you dont smoke yourself. ~~~ Kerrinkalilly ~~~

I am in this situation also and I hate it. I have learned to live with it. I insist on spending what my partner spends on smokes on myself for frivolous things and I wil not kiss my partner if my partner is too smelly. But they have to decide themselves to stop and nagging will not help this - so I really do not recommend it. I have friends whose partners were die hard smokers and they gave up overnight - that is what I am hoping for.

i used to smoke when i first met my fiance and i would be sure to have some gum and febreeze on hand at all times whether traveling or not. i would chew the gum get rid of the smokers breath and i would spray febreeze on my clothes and hair to get rid of the smoky smeel. plus i woudl wash my hands often. my fiance never complained when i did this but if i forgot to spray febreeze or chew a pice of gum he would defiently complain alot until i did lol

there is smoking and there is smoking. are u talking about a chain smoker who smokes inside one fag after another? or u re talking about a person who smokes outside 1-2-3 fags a day? cos i smoke 3 fags a day - my hair does not stink, and as i always smoke outside my clothes do not stink either. after smoking i always chew gum or brush teeth. my husband does not smoke, neither was my previous husband neither all my bfs. i have never had problems with men because i smoke

The smoker smokes outside the house regardless of the weather. I mean in the back yard as far as the alley. The neighbors know what the weather is like just by how my husband dresses to have his first morning cigarette. The non smoker has a nice smelling home and the couples child with asthma doesnt suffer. Its worked for almost 31 years.

Me and my husband came up with boundaries. He doesnt smoke in the house under any circumstances, and he washese his mouth out with scope after each cigerette when he is home so i can still kiss him. He also keeps his dirty clothes in the laundry room so the house doesnt smell like smoke. After 6 months of this he got tired of doing all that and decded it wasnt worth it and quit. YAY!

When I married him, it was a case of "warts an all" as the saying goes. He smoked, I didnt. It was a case of for better or worse and a lot of it was better, so I just got on lived with it. Things improved when he stopped smoking cigarettes and kept to his pipe, which he now only smokes out of doors.

Move to a state where it is illegal to smoke indoors and on certain properties. You could also move to the top floors of a hotel, casino or other tall business. That way, the smoker would have to decide if smoking was worth going through all the trouble and having to pay fines for violating the State and Local smoking ordinances. I hate smoke. I dealt with this for one of my ex boyfriends. He smoked and i didnt. i didnt like being around him when he smoked at all. So what i did was, whenever he smoked i would walk away a bit. After a while he will bring it up. If after he brings up why you walk away he continues to smoke then you just need to flat out tel him. and if he loves you he will do his best to stop or to at least cut down, or at the very very least stop smoking when he is around you! As a smoker who is married to a non smoker, I am very particular about my oral hygeine. I brush my teeth very often and when I come home from work after I shower, I do not smoke until I am about to go to bed and then I brush my teeth, wash my hands and face. Most people dont know I smoke, therefore for some reason, the smell does not stick to me. He loves me and I did it before I met him, so he deals with it. I dont drink and he does, but he did that before me, therefore I let him drink his beer.

My wife and I both smoke, her 1 or 2 per day and me 1 pack. She can quit and I sem to have a hard time with it. I always carry gum, wash my hands well after each smoke, constantly brush my teeth and I have a large cleaning bill and I use a lot of cologne. I have cut down on smoking because it really sux when I want a kiss and she tells me I stink. I really want to quit because it is not healthy to smoke and because my wife is so darn kissable ! The only thing I dont like is kissing my husband right after hes had a cigarette. Other then that, it really doesnt bother me. He smokes outside, so our house doesnt smell. He smoked before we started dating, so whatever cigarette smell lingers on him has just always been part of his smell. Never bothered me.

I smoke and my boyfriend doesnt (we live together). He gets a little annoyed but I always come straight back inside and wash my hands and brush my teeth and/or use Listerine. This seems to help. Its only a minor issue now because we are dating but Im sure if we got married or had kids or something it would become a larger issue because of health concerns and an example for the kids.

i smack him when ever i smell the smoke. i have two small kids. one that shouldnt ever be around it do to being a premie. he doesnt care so i smack him. doesnt do much but i get the joy of smacking him. mostly because he lies to me about it and really hard to lie about smoking when you reek of it.

Simple solution. If you cant deal with it and only complain about it, find a partner who doesnt smoke. Its your own fault for having a partner who smokes in the 1st place. You dont like smoking, why bother with a smoking partner. Geez. Thats why Im lucky my husband of 5 years hasnt complained once. He doesnt even care that I smoke in the house, car, or bedroom. Thats the perfect partner. No nagging.
