Military : How Can You Start A Family If Your In The Australian Navy
I am 17 and I am joining the Australian Navy at the end of next month as a Combat Systems Operator. But im worried that I might never be able to find someone to start a family as my job is permanently stationed on a ship. Is it just one night stands for me for the rest of my life? It may sound great to some people but im sure you would get bored of it after a while. ~~~ Boris Von Snuggles ~~~
Best Answer To Military Question
Australian sailors spend about half their serving time at shore - they're not always on ships, and there's plenty of work to be done at Navy bases regardless of qualification. So there's more opportunity for the off-duty social side of things there. Of all the services, I imagine the RAN would be the hardest to raise a family in. Stationed at a base, a soldier or aircraftman can usually expect to work five days a week. Considering sailors are deployed more often and on ships, that definitely is a concern. It's a nuisance to your civilian social life, but that's the way things are in the Defence Force, but more especially in the Navy. Guess you have to learn to live with it.
