I am getting married in April and my husband is serving in the Army, presently based in Catterick. We are being sent to Cyprus in the summer for two years and I have no idea what to do, where to start or what to expect. I have a 3 year old son also and were planning on extending our family. Answer 2This is for the US military as you don't say what one you are talking about. Until you are married, these orders are unaccompanied. To get them adjusted to accompanied will take time. There is also the possibility that it won't be possible for you to go at all. So you are prepared for that. Now if the orders have been changed then you will have to undergo a Medical Dental Overseas screening to make sure you have nothing that can't be handled there. If Dental work needs to be done then you will have to wait until it is completed before they will even look at you. You will need copies of your civilian medical records, including a pap that has been done in the past 6 months. Then No-Fee Government Issued Passports will be applied for and given. With you having a child from a previous relationship you will need to show papers that allow you to leave the country. The father's signature may need to be on the passport application. You will need a specific Power of Attorney for this possibly, so make sure you have one just in case. You should also make sure you have Tourist Passports for yourselves for when you travel around as a tourist. For this both parent's signatures DEFINITELY need to be on the passport application in the presence of the person you are giving the paperwork to. If the father cannot be there then a Specific POA will be needed. If you are not a citizen of the US then you will not be issued a No-Fee Passport, the only passports you can have are from your Home Country. You will need to find out what the requirements are for you to travel to Cyprus and live as a US Military Dependent. They may not need anything done, but they may. It really does depend on the country. For your belongings (HHG) you will need to find out first if the orders have been changed. If they can then movers hired by the military will come and pack up your belongings. Start going through them and getting rid of things that you don't need. Organize things as well to make it easier. Make sure you have all paperwork like several copies of birth certificates, passports, etc... When you do get married then you should get several copies of the marriage certificate as well.
