Military : What Sites Are Restricted When On A Military Base At Work
Will be joining the military soon and have heard that while at work the computers only allow you acess to certain sites. Is that true and which ones. I'm a pretty social person and do use the internet alot. My friend is always getting stuff on Amazon and ebay-plus someone here just posted-from JS 'that he is at work right now using this site". ~~~ Hanna R ~~~
Best Answer To Military Question
you are in for a big surprise. the military restricts any website that they deem unfit for normal use, such as myspace and facebook. you will not be able to access them at all. any websites that portray any nudity or scantily clad models, any kind of streaming audio or video such as youtube, and being in basic, i doubt very seriously you will have any access to a computer at all unless you are taking some course necessary to your specialty.

Answer 1Myspace is definately restricted, but I think that you can still get on Facebok, and you can go on Yahoo, but can't check your mail, but there's away around that. Good luck!
Answer 2Use it on your own time. It is a job just like any other job. You really need to grow up. I am so glad I am long gone from the military with people like you entering it. Report me, I don't care, if you think this is harsh, just wait little sugar dumpling. Mommy won't be there to wipe you little tushy, you might even have to act grow up.
Answer 3you will NOT be on the internet while at work unless it is for work related purposes. I think what you are referring to is while in the field/deployed. public access sites such as facebook, myspace and youtube are locked out of official DoD computers, as is access to hotmail, yahoo mail and gmail. many other sites are behind a firewall and thus restricted. if you have a laptop and your own private internet, this will not be an issue for your off time. you don't say which Service, but the Navy does NOT allow you to hook up laptops to the ship's LAN/Internet and privately purchased internet is unavailable while underway.

Answer 5Only Myspace type sites, porn sites, offensive sites. But other than that go nuts. I am in the Air Force, and I am at work right now. Surfin Yahoo answers no less. I surf Amazon ALOT at work!!! Whatever. Yeah Ebay is blocked because it is an auction site. How gay is that????
Answer 6There are quite a few sites that are restricted. Forget about checking your email or im-ing anyone. And no MySpace, FaceBook, etc. No Ebay. The list is endless.... Add to that the fact that not everyone has access to a computer at their job. There are shops and work sites that have 1 or 2 computers for 15 guys. Your supervisor will let you on to check your military email and do anything work related, but don't expect to being able to hang out on the computer all day. And, forget about taking your laptop to work.. that's not going to happen either.
Answer 7hey princess, its like this, if the military thinks that the website can cause problems, ITS BANNED. forget about myspace, facebook, ebay or any of the web-based mail cites like hotmail. also you won't be able to get into any chat rooms either. they are also banned. oh and one more thing, the government constantly watches the internet usage on their computers. if they find that you have gone to a website that they have told you not to, you'll be in big trouble. out of all the answers on here, the closest one to getting it right is dsm37127, the mp. i suggest that you read what he says.
