Best Answer To Other Dining Out Question

As someone who has worked in food industry for many years[have owned two of my own in New Orleans} this is my answer to your question......It depends on what type of restaurant, and if open on sat., amp; Sun...Hotel restaurantss are fine anytime, since they schedule private affairs, and have more leeway, re food costs..If business closed on Sunday, beware.. saturdays food will be put in frig, and dealt with on Monday, re in house specials...same is true, following any weekly closing date, be it Sun, Mon, etc...For example, a place serving lots of steaks on week-ends will make a point to have many ready to grill. If amount prepped is misjudged, will be brought out, next day of service. Also, dine where customer count is good.. Busy restaurant will have a more informed kitchen staff, and less food to rotate... Just dont order "fresh" fish. Some food might be leftover from the weekend, but if you go on Tuesday, will it be any fresher or just an extra days leftovers? Guess it depends on the restaurant and how busy it was over the weekend...good business...steady flow of food. Some restaurants close on Mondays and some of the good chefs that worked over the weekend take Mondays off. If I wanted to eat out, it never stopped me...you could get a crummy meal any time of the week.

I dont see why not. I work at a family owned restaurant, and although we get a large shipment of food on Thursdays, most of it is frozen or canned (tenders, fries, canned tomatoes, artichokes, ect) and get things like seafood in smaller amounts, unless is sells especially well over the weekends, in which case it moves to the Specials, and goes quick. Things like burger, prime rib, pork loins and rack of lamb, we buy daily or a few times a week depending how it sells directly from the food distributer. Things like vegetables or greens, we will re-up on multiple times a week if need, so ensure we arent sending out bad food. Usually if items like that arent sold on Friday or Saturday, they are turned into lunch specials. So Sauteed Talapia becomes Fish and Chips for lunch. Its less money being brought it, but at least its not being wasted. Although thats family owned, I dont know about chains. Would explain why my monday nights are so slow though. Never knew people thought about it like that =P

If its a reputable restaurant dont worry about it. Restaurants should never be serving spoiled food regardless of the day of the week. Many chains even have rules requiring them cook off their food and send it to food banks well before the expiration date to keep their quality up. It is a quote from Anthony Bourdains book Kitchen Confidential saying not to eat out on monday and even he has said in many interviews that any reputable restaurant is just fine on a monday.
