Other Environment : What Happens To The Swords From Swordfish When They Are Caught

I was watching a program on the TV about boats fishing for swordfish on the Grand Banks and I noticed that when the fish were unloaded at the quay that they had all had their swords cut off. Are they used for something or are they just thrown away. I would like to obtain one if it is possible. I dont want to know what happens to the swordfish-of course they die. I want to know what happens to the sword which they have cut off. Surely somebody must know. ~~~ david s ~~~
