I'm hooked-on signing into messenger want to break the habit. Cancelling my account isn't an option, as I want to continue using other yahoo products. I want habit breaking techniques that can undo 18+mths worth of conditioning provide long-term or permanent results. ~~~ Kinka ~~~

You can uninstall the Yahoo messenger program. It won't affect your other yahoo accounts. I did it with no problems. Out of sight out of mind.

Answer 5Simpley delete microsoft messenger (or whatever you use) from you computer for a week or two. You'd be surprised how much the urge dies down after a few days. Try reading an actual book instead. You will still get the fix of reading something interesting, but it won't be as mindless and inane and chatting on a computer screen all day.

Answer 9You can always cancel your account with Messenger. It has nothing to do with your yahoo account. I know, I did it several years ago because that fake friendship world was boring the hell out of me.

Answer 11one thing would be to uninstall yahoo messenger from your pc. that could help a lot. I also had the same issue ad that's what I did. I stayed completely away from it for a good time until I realized that I didn't have the urge anymore. It also helped me to occupy myself with other things so I didn't even make much time for it. whenever you realize you've gotten over that habit, then you can get it again and control yourself to not logon to it so much. don't let your mind control you. you control your mind. ;) good luck.
Answer 12Hmm... my problem with several of the other answers is that they have found messenger to be a bad thing.. obviously they don't talk to any of their relatives, or friends on there.. I use Yahoo and WLM to talk to my scattered kids, and to talk to people I've met while doing Answers.. I've got friends on my messenger whom I've met face to face, since '99... Sure, it's addictive, but, I'll take this over Hero*in, or pot, or any of those other drugs.. As for quitting it, I don't intend to, at any time.. I gave up smoking and drinking, I have this vice, and that's fine.
Answer 13i'd just delete THE ICON JUST THE ICON.. not the program then deleting the icon will make u forget....hopefully that will help
