If you take it to your bank and you think that it is a fraudulent check the bank can call the other bank to confirm the check for you. The bank should have a data base that shows numbers of other banks to call. E-mailing the bank really doesnt help all too much. Just because the check number and the routing number agree it doesnt mean that the check is good. If you think it is bad the best way to find out is go to the bank and ask. Usually experienced Tellers/Lead Tellers and Operations Managers can spot a fake check easily but still call for you.

You must take it to a teller at the bank it is issued from. They can run the account number there before cashing it. If you take it to another bank they wont have access to the information because it is another banks checking account number.
