Ive been trying to convince my mom for 5-6 months on letting me get a rat, but she cant get over the tail. How do i get threw to her? ~~~ Puma Bear ~~~

If its your mother -- Youre never going to convince her. Try showing her one, though -- and tell her how smart and playful they are.

First--learn how to spell "; ;-) Ask her why the tail bothers her. What is it about a rats tail that she doesnt like? Thats a totally irrational fear. Then, tell her that if she doesnt want to see it, then youll keep it in your room and only take it to other parts of the house when shes not around. If youre being responsible and taking care of it, theres no reason shell ever have to see it.

Youll need to show your mom that youre fully prepared and ready to keep a rat. Do some research first, then plan a list of items youre going to need to buy monthly (food, bedding, etc). Rodents are usually low-maintenance pets and therefore, are easy to keep. You can prove that to her by showing her your knowledge and your financial plan. Another important step to convincing your mom, is to remain patient and not be too persistent. Perhaps interest your mom by taking her to the nearest pet shop, and she may just change her mind. If shes afraid or nervous of rats, like some people can be, perhaps you can opt for a hamster (they dont have long tails). Other than that, you can try telling her that youll keep it out of sight and youll do the cleaning of the cage along with other responsibilities yourself. Also, try to find out why youre mom is afraid of rat tails. Is it because it resembles worms or snakes? Either way, try telling her the importance of the tail. People are often afraid of things they dont understand but by explaining, she may realize what an important feature it is. My mom hated rats when I got my first one but then she bonded more with it than I did! She loves rats now and plays with my new rats every time she comes over! A lot of people think the tail is hairless and its not... Really. The best way is to take a rat to her and let her hold it. If she still doesnt like it then she probably never will. Good luck!

Information erases ignorance and fear rests on ignorance so show her the objective information on pet rats (wikipedia has a great article on fancy rats) and get her to look at them in pet stores or rescue centres. GOOD LUCK !!!!

The tail thing confuses me... I have two female rats and I love their tails. They are not scaley at all. Theyre actually very soft and covered in a thin layer of hair. The tail of a rat helps them keep balanced and plays a key role in body temperature regulation.

My mother was the same way. She absolutely HATED the tail amp; wouldnt let me get one. She would let me get a hamster or a gerbil. Or a guinea pig but, not a rat. And the only reason is, the TAIL. Maybe go to the pet store, ask to hold one, amp; let your mom pet him/her. Tell her to touch its tail amp; hold that rat for about 5-10 minutes amp; just let your mom see their not bad animals. Also tell her that shell never ever have to clean the rats cage or feed or give him/her water. Tell her that youll be responsible amp; do it yourself. C= Goodluck. My mom NEVER let me get a rat. I just had to be content on either hamsters or guinea pigs. Which was fine. Id like a rat but, Im content with my 2 guinea pigs right now. Oh, amp; one more thing. ive had the same problem with gerbils... i think you should create a slide-show about how good rats are ( someone told me once that rats are the most freindly creatures around) -you could include that? you could take her to a pet shop/farm and ask the shop keeper if your mum could just hold a rat? you could tell her that if you get one then she wouldnt see it at all, it would just be in your room. if theese things dont work then probley you will just have to ask for another pet, like my dad, he has a phobia about them. just keep on nagging at her!

First, I think you should introduce her to a rat. See if shell hold it and get to know it a bit - Im not talking about one visit, I mean actually getting to know someone elses rat. Who knows? Maybe when she sees how great they are shell change her mind. Secondly, are you sure its only the tails she doesnt like? Maybe she just doesnt want the responsibility of a/another pet and this is her excuse. Also, just so you know sometimes rats are born without tails, but its rare and theyre usually kept for breeding and showing so youre unlikely to get one. Theyre really cute though! Try showing her some pictures so she can get past the tails in her mind.

read on the internet all about them tell her dogs have tales cats have tails they just have hair on them then offer to pay for part of it or save up to pay for everything hope that this heps
