Rodents : How Much Water Do Your Guinea Pigs Drink In A 24 Hour Period
I have 2 guinea pigs and to be honest, Im trying to ascertain if their water bottle is leaking (slowly) or they are really drinking as much as it might appear. ~~~ A Canadian ~~~
Best Answer To Rodents Question
Water intake per day (or 24 hour period) really depends on the cavy as each cavy is different. It also depends on what vegetables you are feeding them, some vegetables have a high water content and so they do not need to drink as much water from their water bottle. To determine if the water bottle is leaking place something like a wash cloth underneath it. Check the wash cloth the next morning, if it is wet you know it has been dripping and a new water bottle may be needed.

I dont know, but I have 2 pigs. And I have to fill up their water bottle every day. they are yelling at me by the end of the day to fill it up. I thought this was a lot too. My sister has 3 pigs and she only has to fill the water bottle (same size) every other day.
Answer 5
Well, my piggies drink lots of water because they dont eat a lot of watery vegetables. So they go through at least a medium sized bottle a day. All cavies are different, though, so its hard to judge. Keep an eye out at the end of the day to see how much they drink, and average out how much they are drinking every day. If theyre drinking less than that on one day, their might be something wrong. For the leaking problem, put something under the water bottle [that they can step on freely] to absorb any liquid. Check it at the end of the day/next morning. If its moist, you may need to just pick up a new waterbottle is all.
