Hes still scared of you. You can make him more friendly if you handle him over time. Dont pick him up right away. This is a gradual process. And remember, each hamster has its own personality. 1st,get him used to your hand. Dont use any sudden movements. You can do this every time you fill up his dish or his water and hell eventually get used to it. 2nd, offer him food so that he sees your hand gives something rewarding. Dont let him eat from your hand because hell probably bite you because you smell like food. 3rd, try to coax him (food perhaps) onto something, like mesh, no your hand, so that he gets used to being raised in the air. 4th, now you can try to coax him onto your hand and voila! This whole process may take a while, it all depends on the hamster, so be patient. Good luck!

Sounds like he was just scared. Why not just let him get used to his new surroundings first before handling or stressing him more? Best way to tame any pet is with food. When he is more settled offer a favourite treat. Hell soon get used to the idea that your hand represents something good. Good luck!

hes probably just a little scared. it took me about 2 months of persistent training with my first gerbil (hamster with a tail basically) before he stopped biting people. I would suggest getting him associated with hands a good thing by giving him little bits of carrot, broccoli, celery, etc. when you put your hand in his cage. find a food he really likes and stick with it (best to use veggies or some fruits like apples). soon enough he should know that hands are good because they bring good food. stroke him while he eats, and scold him (but stay calm) when he bites. just a little "ah ah" with a light finger pull away will be better than jerking away which would probably just scare him more. Just keep trying. with patience and persistence youll have him tame in no time!

he is probabaly just scraed and not used to his new environment yet. let him settle in for a day or so so hes used to his surroundings. then get him used to you, use food, w/e he likes. if youre still kind of anxious about holding him you can put your hand in a sock (in case he bites) until you are used to holding him. it will probabaly take longer to get him used to you this way, but if it makes you feel safe enough to hold him its good. if you get scared by the first time he bit you and rarely hold him b/c of it, he will probabaly bite you when you do hold him. 5 weeks old is pretty young too, younger hamsters are usually more nippy than older ones. be carefu when you hold him, he might jump and just start running...they can be insanely fast especially that young and at that size very hard to catch.
