Teach them to love themselves and not to desperately look for a boyfriend or girlfriend. Instead encourage them to date different people and not stay with one person more than a month. People are so different and people this age range are changing so much, to pretend that your relationships will become permanent is just to ask for heartbreak. You have to take this opportunity to explore all kinds of relationships and learn as much as you can about people. In order to love themselves they have to have an interest or passion in life, a hobby, a sport, something they can focus on, become good at, and find happiness in its achievement. Whoever gave me thumbs down please explain why you think children ought to get married to the first person they date in sixth grade?

I wish parents would stop comparing themselves to us. They always come out with some speech starting with "when I was your age" blah blah blah.....times are changing fast and things that people would normally do now are not exactly the same things that were done back then. I also wish parents would be a little more trusting. If their child never gave them a reason to doubt them or not trust them why start doubting them now? Parents need to put themselves in our shoes and realize the stuff we deal with when were not at home. What I like about parents now is that no matter what they always seem to give good advice and have a lot of reliable gut instincts that teens should listen too. Im 17 and married so I dont live my parents anymore but from 13-16 I felt like my parents and I were from 2 different Worlds.

That they wouldnt say: When i was your age That they trust me That they realize im a child only gonna be once and that a late night for lt;insert program heregt; once in a while isnt going to do damage. That im on the internet doing what i want and dont want you bugging me or anything. That i have friends on the internet that i wouldnt mind visiting for a day in a crowded area. That you dont go looking around my room at all. That its MY room and i can treat it how I want.
