Tennis : What Is The Best Way To Get Rid Of Nervousness
During a tennis match if I am losing, I will get nervous and start to hit not as well as I could because I tense up and hit more cautiously. Moving my feet helps a little, but is there a better way to get rid of nervousness? Oh and pretending that the score is 0 to 0 does not work for me. ~~~ burzlondewen ~~~
Best Answer To Tennis Question
I would recommend focusing on your next play as opposed to the score. Decide where you want the ball to go and then put it there with your serve or return. Concentrating on the specific actions involved in each step of the game and connecting them to the higher goal you have of scoring a point and then to the higher goal of winning the game, set and ultimately the match should help you. Also, thinking too much can create unwanted anxiety as well. The skilled photographer doesnt have to spend all of their time focused on the camera; if they do theyll miss the shot. This being the case, perhaps a greater confidence in your fundamentals would free you to enjoy the match as opposed to worrying about the mechanics of playing the game. Which basically means more practice = more confidence.

Medicinal herbs like mistletoe(taken in the first part of the day!)should help.
Answer 8
Positive thinking. When you get up to serve, you think this serve will blow by them. When returning a hit focus on the positive of the ball returning right where you want it to go. If you let yourself think "oh I hope I dont mess this return or hit or serve" guess what will probably happen compared to a positive outlook. This is how successful athletes think.
Answer 9
This is EXACTLY what your opponent wants. That you get nervous and crumble, even if you are leading. The famous Wimbledon ladies final between Jana Novotna and Steffi Graf is the ideal example of this. With a trainer/coach, you should work on this area of your game. Analyse what your opponent does, and says when she wins a point. Does she stare at you, and with a clenched fist go YYYEEEEAH? When youre serving does she keep her eyes fixed on you? If so, then you must return the treatment, and improve your killer instinct. Im not an expert, but if you are leading in the set, then you must find ways to occupy your part of the court, placing balls wherever to grind your opponent down, and kill off the game. Good luck, and happy tennis.
Answer 10
Concentrate amp; focus on the incoming ball amp; not minding the crowd watching. All you hear are the sounds made the the ball amp; racquet, only see your opponent amp; the ball again. If you feel tense or nervous, take deep breaths amp; flex all your body parts by swaying to the rhythm in preparation to make a shot amp; a fantastic return.

The first thing you have to know is that once you think about how youre going to hit your shots, youll do bad. Again, once you think about how youre going to hit your shots, youll do bad. The way to hit your best shots are by not thinking about how to do it. When youre nervous, just remember that youre not supposed to think about how you hit your shots. But still, yea, nervousness can still kill. John Isners (an ATP pro. I hope I got the spelling right) way is to just have fun during matches. I know winning tournaments is not really about fun but more about hard work and determination, but just try to have fun. Then you will loosen up and do better. Now its not easy to suddenly lose nervousness during a match. The best way then is to prepare before matches and get an immunity against pressure and nervousness. How do you do this? Try these drills :D /tennis-

I would probably go for a run and then take a shower to feel fully refreshed. Before a big test or something i sometimes just go to sleep early to get more rest and allow myself to focus better the next day.
Answer 19
What I do when Im losing is I dont focus on the match. I know that sounds bad, but not focusing on the score and just hitting out on the ball makes me play alot better. Another thing you can do is just sing a song in your head or think about something else. Anything that will take your mind off the score!
Answer 20
Smoke some weed before the match man. Ive done it before high school basketball games and Ive played better, been calmer, and as long as you hydrate yourself correctly, it wont affect your coordination at all. I mean, it takes a little getting used to because you feel like youre a mess, but as soon as you get the hang of it, youre calm, relaxed, and in control.
