Toronto : What Is The Legal Age In Toronto To Work In An Establishment That Serves Alcohol
It is for a busser position (not serving alcohol) but I was told I had to be 18 to work in an establishment that serves alcohol. Is this true? The place in question is a pub, and I am 17 years of age. ~~~ Whispering Casino ~~~

If it is a pub then you have to be of legal drinking age. If it is in a restaurant min. 14 you just cant pour or open drinks.

I believe it is 18 (if your in fact the one serving alcohol)...you could do dishes or cook food and be under 18 as far as i know

Tricky question! In order to work at a restaurant, the official law for Ontario is that you must be 14 years of age. Heres the government website I got that fact from: ./scripts/?contentID=2-2-4amp;mcategory=health Thats regardless of whether the restaurant is licensed to serve alcohol or not. The Liquor License Act says persons under the age of 18 cant sell or serve alcohol, but it places no restrictions on working at a licensed restaurant if youre just bussing tables and not preparing, selling (., bartending) or bringing drinks. So dont worry, unless the restaurant you want to work at has its own internal age requirements (which its allowed to), you are perfectly of age to bus tables in a liquor-licensed establishment - provided you dont handle alcohol in any way. If you arent sure or want to confirm that, you can contact the Ontario Ministry of Labor by email or phone:
